Public Health and Tech Milestones

Measles Outbreak Surges: The United States is experiencing a concerning surge in measles cases. The number of confirmed infections has now surpassed the 2019 wave, breaking a 33-year record for cases in a single year since the disease was declared eliminated in 2000. As of mid-June 2025, over 1,200 cases have been confirmed across 38 states, with Texas being the most affected area. This alarming increase is largely attributed to declining vaccination rates, with a study noting a 78% decline in MMR vaccination rates in over 2,000 counties since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nvidia's Historic Valuation: In a significant milestone for the tech industry, chipmaker Nvidia has become the first public company to surpass a staggering $4 trillion market capitalization. This achievement underscores Wall Street's immense confidence in the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, as Nvidia's chips form the backbone of this technological revolution. The company's stock has seen a remarkable rebound, up over 74% from its April lows.

Linda Yaccarino Resigns from X: After two years at the helm of Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), CEO Linda Yaccarino has announced her resignation. Her departure adds to the ongoing turbulence within Musk's business empire. While Yaccarino expressed positivity about her tenure, many analysts had viewed her role as challenging, given Musk's continued hands-on involvement and the platform's ongoing struggles with advertiser confidence amid content moderation concerns.
